2024 Australian Aviation Awards
We are thrilled to announce that the AUAVS has won the RPAS Business of the Year at the Australian Aviation Awards for the second time!
Representatives of our team attended the awards which involves many major players in the aviation industry. The attendees included some of our 15 finalists on the night, spread across an incredible 8 categories of awards!
We’re so proud of the team as a whole for this achievement, and especially 8 of our UAV Pilots who were finalists in the Rising Star and RPAS Pilot of the Year categories!
This incredible achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of our entire team, including over 400 volunteer and paid UAV pilots. Thank you for all your hard work and passion!
2024 Australian Surfing Championships
The AUAVS recently provided aerial surveillance at the Australian Surfing Championships, held in the Port Macquarie region during August. An AUAVS Pilot worked alongside ALS lifeguards and the surf comp directors to ensure the safety of the athletes throughout the event.
Fortunately there were no sharks spotted over the 8 days of competition although a range of other (non-hazardous) marine life was spotted in and behind the contest area. Over the event AUAVS Pilots completed an impressive 175 flights, 52hrs 47mins of flight time and covered a distance of 994km!
UN-GGIM - Lifesaver Drone Outreach Program
Recently our UAV educators – Beau and Chrissi, ran a greatly successful LDOP session to students and staff from several schools in collaboration with Sativus Pty Ltd and the Australian Citizen Science Association at Paradise Country.
During this session they taught a range of students to fly drones and collect data for the National Koala Monitoring Program. A video showcasing the global citizen science story will be released by the United Nations Environment Program and the Citizen Science Global Partnership at the UN Geospatial Network Conference in New York City this August.
Citizen science is a form of collaboration where members of the community participate in scientific research to meet real world goals. The Citizen Science Global Partnership is showcasing how citizen science supports the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals, and is using koala conservation in Australia as the center of this story.
