February 2024 Update

AUAVS, in partnership with SheMaps, offered Surf Life Saving Clubs a subsidised opportunity to participate in our Lifesaver Drone Outreach Program sessions. In line with the conditions of the WISE grant, the program is designed to promote inclusivity and encourage greater female participation in the aviation, science and technology industries. The course was offered to either Nipper (U11-U14) or Junior Lifesaver (14-16) groups.

January 2024 Update

At AUAVS when conducting marine-life surveillance, we maintain a strong focus on 3 target sharks. We can identify different shark species by several different physical features that are visible when looking down into the water with our UAV cameras.

December 2023 Update

AUAVS recently made presentations to Australian Airforce Cadets - 326 Squadron Lismore and students from Bremer State High School. The presentations outlined some of the amazing work SLS and AUAVS members do in the UAV space and included information for the participants on volunteering and employment pathways for flying UAV's in Surf Life Saving missions.

November 2023 Update

The Australian UAV Service (AUAVS) recently had the privilege of being represented by three outstanding members, Emma, Angela and Brent, at the NSW State Emergency Service (NSWSES) Flood Rescue Symposium held in Penrith, Sydney.

October 2023 Update

In a pioneering collaboration, the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney) School of Aviation (UNSW Aviation) and AUAVS are excited to announce a thrilling opportunity for aspiring young aviators. UNSW Aviation is partnering with AUAVS to introduce a ground-breaking Bachelor of Aviation majoring in Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems. 

September 2023 Update

On the first weekend in August, Emma Gale from Hunter Branch attended a Volunteer Leadership Program, held by the Australian Institute of Disaster Resilience (AIDR) in Newcastle. As a Branch UAV Coordinator, Emma is always keen to improve engagement and retention of the volunteer UAV pilots and operators, and this program provided her with some insight, knowledge, and new ideas to implement.
